This is a lecture given by Professor Dr Ulrich S. Schubert at the Summer Session of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities on 23 July 2021.

The core question is what benefits polymers have in medicine. He gives an overview of innovative pharmaceutical polymers and polymer-based nanoparticles that is also understandable for non-chemists. These are needed to make previously unusable antibiotics and antiviral substances available to the human body and to bring active substances to the site of infection in a targeted manner, like in a taxi with GPS.
